November 2021

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from DiMarco Constructors of Rochester, NY, in association with nationally recognized Affordable Housing Developer, Standard Communities, for the electrical work for the New York Avenue Apartment project in Atlantic City, NJ.  The project entails the complete renovation of the 15- Story, 151- Unit New York Avenue Apartment building including new LED Lighting throughout, replacement of the existing Emergency Call System, modifications and upgrades to the fire alarm system, renovations and upgrades to the unit kitchens and bathrooms, modifications additions to the HVAC Systems, installation of a new roof mounted Lightning Protection System, and complete interior renovation of the ground floor Lobby, offices, and support areas. Also included is the complete renovation of (8) existing units to meet ADA and HVI Code requirements which includes all new light fixtures, devices, fire alarm, emergency call, and HVAC systems.

June 2021

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Hunter Roberts Construction Group for the Electrical Work at the Princeton University Lake Campus Graduate Housing project in West Windsor Twp., NJ.  The project is for the American Campus Communities and Princeton University and consists of (3) graduate housing apartment buildings totaling 331,347 square feet.  Each building is a wood framed, three story structure with 379 total units in all.  The schedule is 19 months starting 11/1/21 with completion scheduled for 6/22/23.  Electrical work involves lighting, lighting controls, gear, fire alarm and site lighting systems.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. announces the retirement of one of its longest tenured employees, Dave Cossaboon.  Dave first came to work for Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. as an Apprentice in 1986.  It did not take him long to quickly rise through the ranks and become Foreman.  He ran some of the company’s most difficult installations including John Mansville Automated Production Line, Coriel Institute Lab Expansion, Ancora Psychiatric Hospital and various school projects too numerous to list.  Dave’s work ethic was unmatched and on full display till the end of his career.  At the age of 60 when most LU351 Electricians have retired, he took on the Lincoln Hall project at Camden County College. He retires with the complete respect of the Owners as well as all the employees of Nelson B. Cooney, Inc.

May 2021

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc., in association with Conifer Realty and Construction from Rochester, NY, for the York Village project in Branchburg, NJ.  The project entails the new construction of a 4- Building, 3-4 Story, 100- Unit Affordable Housing Project including light fixtures, devices, telephone and cable TV wiring, fire alarm, CCTV Security camera, group metering, and site light lighting. The project also includes and extensive utility underground system for the Electric, telephone, cable TV, and data conduits throughout the site. This is Nelson B. Cooney, Inc.’s 25th Project in conjunction with the Gary F. Gardner Inc. and Conifer Realty Development Team.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Ernest Bock & Sons, Inc. for the Electrical Work at the Salem County Courthouse Addition & Renovation project in Salem, NJ.  The scope of work includes a 3 story addition (Building B) and alterations to the existing Salem County Superior Courthouse (Building A) and the existing Salem County Administration Building (Building C).  This work is necessary to accommodate spatial requirements of the NJ Courthouse Facility Design Guidelines and bring the Courthouse up to current standards.  The addition of Building B will include four new courtrooms including supporting judges chambers, jury deliberation rooms, secure holding, jury assembly room and support space, new training room ands a large lobby and main new entrance.  New secure judicial parking is located at grade level of the new addition.  The project goal is create a consolidated courthouse facility.  The Electrical Work includes Lighting, Lighting Controls, Gear, Generator, Fire Alarm, Audio/Visual, Teledata, and PA Systems.  Project completion is scheduled for Spring 2023.

December 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. and Conifer Realty & Construction for the Page Homes Housing Project in Trenton, NJ.  The project will consist of the new construction of (77) senior housing apartments encompassing ten separate buildings along with a separate Community Center Building.  All electrical work including telephone, television, fire alarm, security camera and card access systems are included in the project as well as an extensive site lighting and utility infrastructure. This is the Company’s 24th Project in collaboration with Gardner/Conifer in South Jersey.

December 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. for the Electrical Work in Lincoln Hall at the Camden County College Blackwood Campus.  The existing Lincoln Hall is being renovated with new lighting, wiring devices, panels and fire alarm upgrades.  The most significant renovations will be those to the theater workshop, prop and costume storage areas, studios, a small theater, classrooms, office spaces and bathrooms.  A concession stand, a new air conditioning system and a new heating system will be installed and the building will be made handicapped accessible.  The renovation of Lincoln Hall is one of many projects in the colleges master plan which is updated over time to reflect the college’s academic mission.

December 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Dandrea Construction Co., Inc. for the Electrical Work at Pennsauken High School.  A new 14,383 square foot pre-engineered metal Field House is being constructed and extensive renovations will occur in the existing Library,  Locker Rooms and Training room.  A new main entrance and security vestibule will also be added.  Electrical Work involves new lighting, gear, fire alarm, PA & clock systems, tele/data and security systems.  The project is part of a $36M bond referendum that cleared the way for a series of facilities upgrades that district officials described as transformative.

October 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from DiMarco Constructors and Winn Development for the Sencit Liberty Apartment project in Atlantic City, NJ. The project entails the renovation of (156) units within the Disston, Schoolhouse A, Schoolhouse B, and Liberty Apartment buildings. Rehabilitation work includes new lighting, devices, fire alarm upgrades including reconfigurations to the kitchen and bathrooms as well as common area upgrades to all corridors including modifications and replacement of antiquated HVAC equipment.

August 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Terminal Construction Corporation for the Electrical Work at the Rowan University New Academic Building in Glassboro, NJ.  This 4 story, 67560 square foot facility will house the new School of Earth and Environment.  The building will include general teaching classrooms, science teaching laboratories with a variety of public and collaboration spaces, and administrative offices.  Electrical work includes new lighting and controls and an extensive power and distribution system.  This would include a new 15KV Medium Voltage Loop Switch and 1000 KVA Pad Mounted Transformer, Manholes, Main Switchboard, Panels, Transformers and Metering.  A new 500 KW Emergency Generator and Automatic Transfer Switch is provided for emergency power.  A complete Fire Alarm System, Two-Way Radio Emergency Voice System, Teledata System, Audiovisual System, Security System and Lightning Protection System is also part of our contract.  Completion is scheduled for Winter of 2021.

July 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Hessert Construction Group for the GDIT Project located in Egg Harbor, NJ. The project entails the tenant fit-out of approximately 43,000 square feet of space for General Dynamics Information Technology on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Building #3 located in the Stockton Aviation Research and Technology Park. The Project includes a new Data Center for GDIT and includes new lighting, extensive power and distribution systems including new switchboards, 1250 KW emergency generator, UPS System with By-Pass Switches, panels and transformers as well as extensive power requirements for the Data Center racks and electronics. A complete fire alarm system is included, as well as provisions for Tele/Data and Audio/Visual systems. Power wiring will be provided for modular furniture throughout the space, including power wiring to all HVAC equipment and designated cooling equipment for the Data Center.

May 2019

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Intech Construction for the new Hilton Garden Inn hotel to be built on the Camden waterfront adjacent to the Ben Franklin Bridge. The project includes a new 7-story, 180 Key, 122,652 square foot hotel following the Hilton Standards. This new hotel includes 180 guestrooms and accessory meeting rooms, lounge, 85 seat restaurant, fitness/exercise room and other misc. hotel amenity spaces (guest laundry, vending machines, etc). Hotel also contains in-house laundry facilities and associated back-of-house support functions.

November 2018

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Torcon, Inc. for the Cooper (MOB) Medical Office Building Project located in Cherry Hill, NJ.  The work includes the Core & Shell work for the existing 4-story, 115,000 square foot building formerly occupied by Lockheed Martin.  Cooper University Hospital will convert the existing building into a new state of the art Medical Office Building.  The work of this contract includes the demolition of the existing  electrical service and distribution throughout the building and the installation of a new electric service and switchboard, new electrical distribution throughout including new panelboards and transformers, new Emergency Generator System with (3) Automatic Transfer Switches, new lighting for select core rooms, power to new HVAC  equipment, power to (3) new Elevators along with new exterior Site Lighting around the parking areas and perimeter of the facility.

October 2018

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Grace Construction Management Company for the Recovery Village Project located in Cherry Hill,  NJ.  The project is a joint partnership between Cooper University Hospital and Advanced Recovery Systems, which operates addiction and substance abuse treatment centers in five states, and includes the new construction of a state of the art, 90-bed, 56,240 square foot, 2-story, $ 27 million dollar treatment facility. The work involves new electric service and distribution, lighting and lighting control systems, branch circuit wiring and devices throughout for patient care, 125 KW emergency generator system with Automatic Transfer Switches, complete fire alarm system and site lighting around the campus.

September 2018

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Torcon, Inc. for the Cooper Cancer Center Project located in Voorhees, NJ.  The project involves the demolition and complete tenant fit-out of 28,000 square feet on the second floor of the existing facility for Cooper University Health System. New Lighting, devices, branch wiring, electrical distribution including panel boards and transformers, HVAC systems, Fire Alarm System, and Nurse Call Systems are included in the project encompassing five different suites and phases.

August 2018

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Torcon, Inc.  for the Heliport Replacement Project at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ.  The project involves the complete replacement of the existing Heliport located on the roof of the eleven story Keleman Building. The work involves the demolition of the existing structure and electrical facilities and the installation of new perimeter LED Lighting, installation of a Radio Operated Lighting Control System and antenna, new flood lights, as well as power wiring to a Glycol System, Snow Melt System, Heat Blankets, Foam Releasing System and the extension of a fire alarm system.

March 2018

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Hatzel & Buehler, Inc. for the electrical work involved with the Interior Lighting, Interior Lighting Control System and Exterior lighting at the new 467,000 square foot $349 million dollar Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill.  When complete, this state of the art medical center will ensure that the Inspira Health Network will be able to meet the growing and changing health care needs of Gloucester County residents for decades to come.  The new hospital will feature 204 all private patient rooms, the latest in medical and communication technology, home-like birthing suites, a pediatric emergency department, a comprehensive cancer program, emergency angioplasty for heart attack patients and smart room technology designed to enhance patient safety and the patient experience.

September 2017

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Nexus Properties for the electrical installation of the Rowan Boulevard A4G Building.  The work involves the complete electrical installation of a new 4 – Story 38,522 Square Foot, 20 Unit Student Housing Building for the students of Rowan University.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. also receives a contract agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. and Conifer Realty for the Camp Salute project in Clayton, NJ.  The project will consist of the new construction of (76) Senior Housing Apartments encompassing eight separate buildings and Community Center.  All electrical work including telephone, television, fire alarm, security camera and card access systems are included in the project, as well as site lighting and utility infrastructure.

Gardner, Inc. and The Michaels Organization for the Renaissance I project in Asbury Park, NJ.  The project will consist of the new construction of (64) Senior Housing Apartments encompassing five separate buildings.  All electrical work including telephone, television, fire alarm, security camera and card access systems included in the project, as well as site lighting and utility infrastructure.

Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Nexus Properties for the electrical installation for the Rowan Boulevard A4F Building.  The work involves the complete electrical installation of a new 6 –Story 176,759 Square Foot, 90 Unit Student Housing Building for the students of Rowan University.  Approximately 1/3 of the Ground Floor will comprise of (3) Future Retail spaces and the balance as well as Floors 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 will consist of Apartment Units.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives the award from Nexus Properties for the Classroom Fit-out of the A3A Building at Rowan Boulevard in Glassboro, NJ.  The Projects consists of the fit-out of 27,620 square feet of shell space on the 2nd thru 6th Floors of the A3A Building currently under construction.  Rowan University will occupy the space as new Classrooms, Labs, and Offices.  The electrical work includes all new light fixtures, devices, electric distribution, fire alarm and connections to all new HVAC Systems.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. has been selected to receive a “ New Jersey’s Leading Infrastructure Project” award, presented by the New Jersey Alliance for Action, in honor of our work on the Rowan University – Rowan Boulevard Project (Phase 3) in Glassboro, NJ.  The New Jersey Alliance for Action’s “New Jersey’s Leading Infrastructure Projects” award program was created to highlight innovative pioneering and landmark construction initiatives that greatly impact the State’s economy and to honor the businesses and organizations that work together as partners to ensure the project’s success.  The Rowan University – Rowan Boulevard Project is a great example of what can be done when organizations work together as a team to develop a fantastic Project.  Michael P. Cooney, President of Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is invited to accept the award on behalf of the Company.  Rowan University is becoming a regional destination, thanks in part to the continued construction of Rowan University Phase A-3, which features a $110 Million capital investment on a 4-acre site.  When complete later this year, Phase A-3 will boast 336,000 square feet of retail space, student living, classrooms, a fitness center, and a parking  garage – making  it one of New Jersey’s Leading Infrastructure Projects.

Michael P. Cooney, President of Nelson B. Cooney, Inc., is elected to the Union League of Philadelphia, the #1 City Club in the Country.  Founded in 1862 as a patriotic Society to support the Union and the policies of Abraham Lincoln, the Union League of Philadelphia laid the philosophical foundation of other Union Leagues across a nation torn by civil war.  As they did in 1862, today’s members represent the region’s leaders in business, education, technology, healthcare, law, government, religion, art and culture.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. acknowledged and celebrated the retirement of two longstanding Foremen of the Company with a luncheon/banquet conducted at the Landmark Americana Grille in Glassboro, NJ.

John Sentman – John first came to work for Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. in 1990 at the Mobil Control Building in Paulsboro, NJ.  John has been a key and trusted employee of the Company for 27 years; he is a highly skilled and intelligent electrician with a perfectionist work ethic.  John was a key member of every Project he was involved with and completed many intricate and complicated electrical installations. John was respected by all who worked with him and he had the complete respect of the Owners of Nelson B. Cooney, Inc.

Bob Baker – Bob first came to work for Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. as an apprentice in 1986.  It did not take long before Nelson Cooney saw the potential in Bob and, shortly after becoming a Journeyman, he was promoted to a Foreman of the Company. Bob has been a key and trusted employee of the Company for 30 years.  As a Foreman, Bob went on to run many of the Company’s largest, most complicated, and high profile Projects in it’s history.  Bob is highly skilled, personal, and possesses the leadership and organizational skills to effectively lead and manage many electricians and other tradesmen in the successful completion of large Construction Projects.

Both John and Bob are irreplaceable and will be sorely missed.  All at Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors and cannot thank them enough for their loyalty and friendship over the years.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Prestige Builders, a subsidiary of The Michael’s Organization, for the Branch Village Mid-Rise Project. The Project consists of the construction of a new 3-story, 50 Unit, Senior Housing Apartment Building located in Camden, NJ.  The electrical work includes the complete lighting, devices, branch wiring, service, feeders and distribution, HVAC Equipment connections, Fire Alarm, Telephone and Television wiring, as well as site lighting.

November 2016

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Torcon, Inc. for the KIPP Cooper Norcross-Whittier School in Camden, NJ. The Project is the 2nd School Cooney Electric has been selected for as part of the KIPP Cooper Norcross Charter School Program in Camden. The Project consists of renovating the existing 56,420 square foot, 3-story Whittier School along with the addition of a 10,000 square foot, 1-story prefabricated Gymnasium and Cafeteria. A 2,400 square foot steel frame structure will connect the existing building to the prefabricated addition and include a new entrance canopy. The electrical work involves all aspects for a new School including new electric service, electrical distribution panels, HVAC equipment, lighting, devices, Fire Alarm System, Sound, PA and Clock Systems, Intrusion Detection and CCTV Security Systems, Card Access System, Tele/Data and Audio-Visual Systems throughout the completely renovated facility, including exterior Site Lighting and Access Control Gates. The School will function as Classrooms and Administrative space for the KIPP School Program for Grades 5-8.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Nexus Properties for the Fitness Center @ Rowan University located in Glassboro, NJ.  The Project consists of the interior fit-out of existing space located on the First Floor of the A3 Building presently under construction, and as part of the expansive Rowan Boulevard Project.  The electrical work includes new electric service, electrical distribution and panels, lighting, devices, fire alarm system, HVAC equipment and connections for fitness equipment for this state of the art Fitness Facility to be used by Rowan University students.

September 2016

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Nexus Properties for the electrical installation for the Rowan Boulevard A3B Building. The work involves the complete electrical installation for a new 4-Story, 68,600 Square Foot, 48-Unit Student Housing Building for the students of Rowan University.  17,900 square feet of Retail space is included on the First Floor and 50,700 square feet of Apartment Units are included on Floors 2, 3 and 4.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. and Conifer Realty & Construction for the Clayton Mill Run Senior Housing Project in Absecon, NJ.  The project will consist of the new construction of 72 senior housing apartments encompassing five separate buildings along with a separate Community Center Building. All electrical work including telephone, television, fire alarm, security camera and card access systems are included in the project as well as an extensive site lighting and utility infrastructure.  This is the Company’s  22nd Project in collaboration with Gardner/Conifer in South Jersey.

February 2016

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Torcon, Inc. for the MD Anderson Cancer Center Infusion Addition and Clinical Exam Renovation Project located in Camden, NJ. The project entails the selective demolition, renovations and fit-out to 7,500 square feet of existing space on the 3rd and 4th floors of the facility. The 3rd floor includes renovations and modifications to the Lobby and Infusion Bays and includes new lighting, power, Nurse Call, Fire Alarm and distribution equipment including new Roof-top Units. The 4th floor includes fit-out of existing shell space into new Offices and includes new lighting, power, fire alarm and HVAC equipment.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is selected and receives a notice of award from Ernest Bock & Sons for the electrical work for the Vineland Middle School # 2 Project. This new, 1-story, 98,750 square foot facility is part of the New Jersey School Development Authority (SDA) program and will be constructed on a competitive Design/Build basis. The electrical work is all encompassing and includes lighting, power and distribution, emergency generator, fire alarm, sound, clock, intercom, tele/data, security, CCTV, access control, lightning protection, automatic lighting controls, and site lighting over a +50 acre site located in Vineland, New Jersey.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Irwin & Leighton, Inc. for the Lockheed Martin LRDR Expansion Project in the L3 -Ops Building in Camden, NJ.  The Project entails the selective demolition and fit-out of approximately 15,000 square feet of existing space and includes new lighting, power receptacles and modular furniture, bus duct plugs, feeders and distribution panels, isolation and K-13 dry transformers, new panelboards, power and connections to new HVAC Equipment and Roof-top Units, along with an extension of the existing SDT Fire Alarm System.

The project entails the demolition and fit-out of two existing buildings into Patient Care Facilities for Virtua Hospital and includes modifications to electric services, new panels and distribution equipment, light fixtures, devices, fire alarm systems,  nurse call systems, HVAC equipment and site lighting.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. for the Cooper University Healthcare EMS Building project.  The project involves the renovation of an existing EMS Building in Camden for Cooper Hospital and includes new lighting, receptacles, and wiring throughout the facility.

December 2015

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Hunter Roberts Construction Group for the Mastery Charter School.  The project entails the construction of a new 3-story, 93,000 square foot school to be built in the Cramer Hill section of Camden.  The work includes the complete electrical installation of all Lighting, Power, Emergency Generator as well as Fire Alarm, Sound, Clock and Intercom Systems and Site Lighting.

October 2015

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Billows Electric Supply Company for their new Office/Warehouse facility in Delran.  This projects involves the electrical demolition of the existing facility and the construction of a new 20,000 SF Office and renovation of the 90,000 SF Warehouse space.  New lighting, power, emergency generator, fire alarm and security systems will be installed. 

 July 2015

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Hessert Construction Company for the Phase II Electrical Work at the Cinnaminson High School and Cinnaminson Middle School.  The work consists of extensive additions and renovations to the 161,762 SF High School as well as a new Fire Alarm System for the Cinnaminson Middle School.  The project is scheduled to be completed by 8/19/16.

July 2015

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is selected and receives a contract agreement from Hessert Construction Company for the Cooper University Healthcare Interior Renovation Project. The project entails the interior renovation and fit-out of 116,000 square feet of the 2nd floor of the existing L3 Communications Building in Camden, NJ. The project includes all new Light Fixtures, automatic lighting controls, branch wiring, power feeds to modular furniture, power to new HVAC equipment and a complete fire alarm system. The project received $ 40 million dollars of tax credit incentives from the State of New Jersey Economic Development Agency as part of their program to lure companies to Camden. Cooper University Hospital is consolidating numerous satellite administrative offices from local municipalities to the L3 Building as part of this project.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is authorized to proceed with additional work at the Holtec International Facility under construction at the Broadway Terminal of the South Jersey Port in Camden, NJ

Work includes the Phase 2 Disconnects Contract and includes new 5KV Switch, 1500 KVA Pad Mount Transformer and 1200 Amp Distribution Switchboard for re-feeding existing reefer panels for the Trucking operations of tenants of  the port facility. Work also includes demolition and removal of existing S&C MV Substation along with removal of existing cables in various underground duct banks.

Work also includes extension of the Temporary Trailer Compound service for (8) additional Construction Trailers to be brought on site for the construction of the various new buildings. Extension of the pole line, as well as splice/taps to the trailers is included from the overhead pole line.

April 2015

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Nexus Properties for the Cooper/Inspira Health Care Fit-Out project at the A-2 Building on Rowan Boulevard in Glassboro, NJ.  The project entails the fit-out of approximately 30,000 square feet of shell space into medical offices, exam rooms, treatment rooms, radiology and MRI suites for Cooper Hospital and  Inspira  Hospitals.  This satellite facility includes new lighting, devices, power distribution, panels, transformers, as well as complete new Fire Alarm and Nurse Call Systems.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Hessert Construction Company for the Phase I Electrical Work for the Cinnaminson Township Board of Education.  The work consists of Additions & Renovations at the New Albany Elementary School, Eleanor Rush Intermediate School, Cinnaminson Middle School and Cinnaminson High School.  Renovations to the Main Office, Conference Rooms, Principal’s and Vice Principal’s Offices, Guidance Offices, Boiler Rooms and Corridors will take place in most of the schools.  Additions involve new entrance vestibule’s and canopies as well as a new Gym complex at the High School.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is authorized to proceed with additional work at the Holtec International project located at the Broadway Terminal of the South Jersey Port in Camden, NJ.  The work involves the survey, identification, and removal of existing cables in thirty manholes and ductbanks located in the footprint of the new Holtec manufacturing facility.  3/C lead cables, 1000 CMIL DC cables, as well as 5KV THHN cables will be removed and salvaged.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is also authorized to proceed with the work involved for the new temporary trailer compound for the Holtec project.  The work involves new 5KV ductbanks, 5KV switch, 300 KVA pad mount transformer, new utility pole line as well as associated panels, distribution equipment,  disconnects, 150 KVA transformers and connections to numerous temporary construction trailers.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from T.N. Ward, Inc. for the Linden Charter School in Camden, NJ.  The project entails the construction of a new 3-story, 26,000 square foot building on the site of the existing campus completed previously by Nelson B. Cooney, Inc.  The work involves new electric service, distribution equipment, feeders, lighting, power and equipment connections throughout the new academic building.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Builders Inc. for the Lockheed Martin GSail Project located in Moorestown N.J.  The project involves the interior fit-out of an existing space in the Mission Systems & Training Facility and includes new lighting, power distribution feeders, panel-boards, transformers, power to server racks, fire alarm system, cable trays, grounding connections to new HVAC equipment and emergency shut-off of critical equipment in a Coast Guard simulated war room.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is selected and receives a contract agreement from Joseph J. Jingoli & Son, Inc. for the Phase 1 – Electrical Disconnect Project for the Holtec Technology Center to be constructed at the Broadway Terminal at the South Jersey Port in Camden, NJ. The project involves selective disconnection and relocation of power and communication services for various buildings to be demolished as part of the massive new manufacturing and office facilities for Holtec Technologies, Inc. The project has been highly publicized as one of the recent, large, and notable companies relocating to Camden as part of the State of New Jersey Tax Credit Incentive Program instituted under Governor Christie’s administration. Holtec received $ 260 Million in Tax Incentives to relocate their facilities from Marlton to Camden, NJ.

Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Procida Realty & Construction for the Carolina Crescent project in Atlantic City, NJ.  The project entails the complete electrical construction of 91 market rate apartment units encompassing 9 separate buildings over two city blocks in the shadow of the (former) Revel Casino.

The Borough of Glassboro and Nexus Properties celebrated a topping-off ceremony as  iron workers and officials marked the placement of the ceremonial last piece of steel atop 220 Rowan Boulevard.  Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is contracted to complete the electrical work on the new mixed-use medical, retail and luxury residential complex on Downtown Glassboro’s Rowan Boulevard.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. continues its association with Conifer Realty & Construction and Gary F. Gardner Construction with the award of six new Senior Housing Projects:

1.) The Rittenberg project in Egg Harbor City, NJ entails the complete electrical work for a new 4-story, 101 unit senior housing project located at the former location of the Rittenberg School. Work includes the service, feeders & distribution equipment, generator, fire alarm, wireless emergency call, telephone entry, access control & area of rescue assistance systems, including wiring for all telephone, cable T.V., and security camera systems. LED site lighting and decorative streetscape lighting are a part of the project, as well.

2.) Duffy School Senior Housing includes 53 Units of additions and renovations to the former Duffy School in Florence, NJ.

3.) 112 Units are included over ten buildings in Rio Grande, NJ.

4.) 48 Units are included over seven buildings in Cape May Courthouse, NJ.

5.) 75 Units are included over eight buildings in Pennsauken, NJ.

6.) 91 Units are included over twenty-four buildings and four city blocks in Atlantic City, NJ.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a contract agreement from Grace Construction for the Lockheed Martin Data Center Renovation project in Moorestown, NJ.  Work includes modifications to the existing switchboards, new panels and distribution feeders, power to a new chiller, and power to associated cooling system components inside the classified Data Center used for Lockheed Martin’s AEGIS Missile Defense System.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Joseph J. Jingoli, Inc. for the electrical work for the Kipp Cooper Norcross Academy in Camden, NJ.  Kipp Cooper Norcross Academy is slated to be the first of the hybrid district/charter schools established under the Urban Hope Act, sponsored by Senator Don Norcross.

The Academy was created in a partnership among Kipp Charter Schools; The Cooper Foundation, which is the charitable arm of Cooper Hospital; and the Norcross Foundation, created by the Norcross Family, including George E. Norcross III and his brother, State Senator Donald Norcross.

The facility will be the first of a projected five Kipp schools in a mini-network serving nearly 3,000 children.  The $45 million, 110,000 square foot, 3-story project, located at Lanning Square will include 58 classrooms,  cafeteria, auditorium, gymnasium, computer labs, playing fields, roof garden, and an indoor & outdoor basketball courts.

Cooney Electric also completed the temporary classroom facilities for Kipp to enable 100 Kindergarten students to begin the 2014 school year in September 2014.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Nexus Properties for the Penthouses at Rowan Boulevard project in Glassboro, NJ.

The 6-story, 315,000 square foot mixed use building will include 119 4-bedroom apartments, 58 premium market rate units, a 26,000 square foot Urgent Care Medical Center to be shared by Cooper Hospital and Inspira Health Network as well as 29,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor.  This is the 5th project for Cooney Electric on the $300 million Rowan Boulevard Development.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. for the Renovations to the John F. Kennedy Community Center in Willingboro, NJ.  This project involves renovations to approximately 30,000 SF of the existing Community Center.  The general design intent is to re-purpose the original cafeteria, kitchen and ancillary spaces into a new state of the art “Conference Center/Banquet Facility.  The work includes the removal of all interior partitions, finishes and MEP systems within the work area to facilitate a complete renovation.  New Lighting, Panels, Generator, Fire Alarm, Audio/Visual systems are being provided.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Nexus Properties for the tenant fit-out work of the entire first floor retail space at the recently completed E-1 Buidling at Rowan Boulevard in Glassboro, NJ. Work includes the complete fit-out of multiple tenant spaces and involves new individually-metered services, distribution panelboards and transformers, lighting, devices, fire alarm and all new HVAC equipment for each tenant.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. and Conifer Realty & Construction for the Revere Run Senior Housing project in Gloucester Township, NJ. The project will consist of the new construction of 80 senior housing apartments encompassing six separate buildings, along with a separate Community Center building. All electrical work including telephone, television, fire alarm, security camera and card access systems are included in the project, as well as an extensive site lighting and utility infrastructure.

The project will consist of the new construction of 72 senior housing apartments encompassing twelve separate buildings, along with a separate Community Center building. This project involves renovations to the approximately 150,000 SF School. A new Main Switchboard, Electrical Service, Emergency Generator and Fire Alarm System are being added. Additional Lighting, Feeders, Tele/Data, Sound/Clock/Intercom and Wiring Device changes are being provided, as well.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from T.N. Ward Company for the electrical work associated with the Linden Charter School (aka Benjamin Franklin Academy Charter School) in Camden, NJ. This project involves the new construction of (2) separate 2-story, 25,000 square foot buildings, a separate 7,500 square foot Gymnasium, and (41) site lighting poles around this campus style school encompassing an entire city block.

November 2012

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. and Conifer Realty & Construction for the Lawnside Senior Housing project in Lawnside, NJ. The project will consist of the historic rehabilitation of the former Lawnside School into 16 apartments and the construction of a new second building to house 24 apartments for seniors. A total of 40 units will be constructed and also includes a community room, exercise room, computer room, craft room, laundry facilities and a management office.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. and Conifer Realty & Construction for the Springside Apartments project in Burlington Township, NJ. This project will develop the historic Springside School into 74 units of affordable housing. Thirty-one apartments and a community room will be developed in the existing building and an addition will be constructed to house 44 units, laundry facilities, fitness room, library, and a management office.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Kinsley Construction for the construction of the new 4-story, 129 room Marriott Hotel to be located at Rowan Boulevard adjacent to the campus of Rowan University. The project is being undertaken on a design/build basis following the Marriott Hotel standards and also includes banquet facilities, restaurants, meeting rooms, indoor pool, and assorted other rooms.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Hunter Roberts Construction for the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Camden, NJ. This new 120,000 S.F. amenity-laden facility includes an athletic training facility and wellness center with both indoor and outdoor recreational facilities. These facilities include a gymnasium, aquatic center with Olympic-sized pool, state-of-the-art fitness center, teen center, performing arts venue and classrooms, family-life and personal development center, library-learning center, an early-childhood education center, a senior center and food court. The overall community center is unified by a town plaza which links spaces and people physically and socially under a spectacular glass skylight.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Stanker & Galetto for the Benedict’s Place Senior Housing project in Cherry Hill, NJ. The project consists of the construction of a new 60,000 S.F. 74-unit, 3-story senior residence building also containing administrative offices, community room and kitchen, mechanical, electrical, trashrooms, personal laundry facilities and lobby. This is Cooney’s third similar senior housing project for the Diocese of Camden, having also recently completed the Shepherd’s Farm project in West Deptford and St. Stephen’s project in Pennsauken.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Irwin & Leighton, Inc. for the Aegis Ashore IFC – Phase 2 project at Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, NJ. The work includes the initial infrastructure work for a new missile ballistic test building for the Aegis Missile Defensive System. Work includes extensive conduit ductbanks, 5KV cable installation and substation terminations,extensive grounding systems including counter-poise, 20-foot ground rods, equipotential ground mats, copper grounding skid plates and exothermic grounding of steel, rebar and lightning protection system, installation of bore site cables and new site lighting.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. to proceed with the electrical work on the Additions and Renovations at the Samuel Mickle Elementary School in Mickleton, NJ. The new additions total approximately 23,100 S.F. and the new renovations consist of approximately 15,600 S.F of the existing High School space.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Gary F. Gardner, Inc. for the electrical work associated with the Whitman Park Family Residences project in Camden, NJ. The project entails the complete electrical installation of 48 new townhome-style, affordable apartments in five separate buildings. This is Cooney’s third project at the Ferry Avenue site, having also recently completed the 4-story, 50 units Ferry Station project and the 6-story 84 unit Ferry Manor project.

Arthur J. Ogren, Inc. for the installation of Theatrical Lighting, Stage Dimming Equipment, and associated power and control wiring for the new Cape May Convention Center presently under construction in Cape May, NJ.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Shoemaker/Perryman J.V. for the LEAP Academy Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Charter School in Camden, NJ. The 3-story 60,000 square foot school will accomodate up to 540 students and become an annex to its current University Charter High School and Pre-K through 8th Charter School. The specialized S.T.E.M. program will be housed in a facility that will include classrooms, science and technology laboratories, lecture halls, lunchroom, commerical kitchen, and a Media Center. The building exterior design consists of brick, metal and glass, which compliments the facades of the historic Cheney Mansion which is part of the Cooper Street facade and a contributor to the Cooper Street Historic District. These three townhouse facades will be retained and restored and become part of the fabric of the exterior building design.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Irwin & Leighton, Inc. for the Lockheed Martin Building 142–Omega Tower Project in Moorestown, NJ. The Project involves the renovation of existing Building 142 and includes new services, power distribution feeders, panelboards, harmonic mitigating transformers, lighting, power, equipment and specialty systems including Liebert TVSS’s, Rad/Haz Warning System, fire alarm, card access, cable tray, Phase Loss and EPO Systems for a new RADAR Tower structure along with (2) new Portable/Telescoping RADAR towers. Work also involves (3) new Chillers and a new Computer Room and extensive wiring to house the specialty electronics for the Omega Tower and associated equipment. An extensive conduit ductbank system will be installed from the existing building to the new Omega Tower structure and Portable/Telescoping Towers.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. receives a Contract Agreement from Domus, Inc. for the Living Springs Manor Project in Edgewater Park, NJ. This 20 Unit Senior Housing Project is the 2nd for Cooney Electric at the Living Springs Abundant Life Facility (the 100 Unit Senior Housing Project was completed in early 2011 for the same Owner and General Contractor). This new building also includes lighting, power, PSE&G, Verizon, and Comcast ductbanks, electric service, power distribution, fire alarm, emergency call, selective entry, card access, telephone, television, and data wiring and systems throughout. An extension of the original site lighting installed during the first building is included over the expansive site lay-out.

The Project entails the electrical work associated with (25) new homes scattered throughout Atlantic City. The Project is being built in conjunction with the Atlantic City Housing Authority and the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority as part of the re-development effort in and around Atlantic City.

This project encompasses the initial start-up work for the new 7-story, 200,000 square foot Medical School Building to be built in conjunction with Cooper Hospital and Rowan University. The work involves the temporary electric facilities required for the construction trailer compound, the temporary power and lighting throughout the building, grounding of the foundations and steel structure, the utility ductbanks for the electric, telephone, television and data services to the building along with underground ductbanks for associated underslab electric services and feeders inside the building.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. is authorized by the City of Ocean City to proceed with the installation of tele-data, security, and card access systems for the Ocean City Community Center and Public Library expansion and renovation project.

Work was completed on the Coriell Institute for Medical Research located in Camden, NJ. The project consisted of demolition of four floors of the existing building and the complete installation of new laboratory facilities including an 80 KVA UPS System and 175 KW, roof-mounted Generator package.

Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. has received a Contract Agreement from Gary Gardner, Inc. to proceed with the Electrical Work for the Conifer Village @ Deptford Project. The project is a 92-unit, three-story, multi-building complex with Clubhouse located in Deptford, NJ.

Completed the electrical installation for the 198,000 SF, four-story, 698 bed, Phase I Student Housing Facility at Rowan University. The work also included the complete installation of all tele-data, fire alarm, security, and card access systems for the building.

Also completed work on the Rutgers University Gym & Fitness Center. The project included the complete demolition of the existing gymnasium, locker rooms, squash and racquetball courts, assorted offices and common areas, and the removal of the Olympic-size pool and were replaced with brand new state-of-the-art fitness center and facilities including audio/visual, LCD flat-screens, fire alarm, CCTV, security and card access systems.

Official dedication ceremony held for the historic renovation of Finlaw Building in Salem, NJ. Nelson B. Cooney, Inc. completed the electrical work on the adjacent six-story, 275-car parking garage. The garage is available to Finlaw Building employees and also offers paid public parking for visitors to Salem’s historic district.
